Input/Output Devices

As we know that, computers is a processing device. It processes data given, as input and gives output or result from it. If we are not able to see what we are providing and what is the outcome, it will be of no use. Thus, a computer system is useful if it is able to communicate with its external environment. The Input Output devices provide the means of communication between the computer and the outer world. These devices are also known as peripheral devices, as they surround CPU. Without any input-output device a computer would simply be a display device and not allow users to interact with it, much like a TV. Devices used to give or input data are known as input devices and devices which accept results from the primary storage to supply them to the users or store them on a secondary storage devices for future processing are known as output devices. There are some devices that are used for both inputs as well as for output purposes.

Nowadays a wide variety of I/O devices are available in the market. However, regardless of the nature of the I/O devices, special processors called I/O interfaces are required to convert internal codes to human readable from while supplying the output. These I/O interfaces are also called channels or I/O processors.
